You might be able to guess that we love a trip to the linen showroom, as it’s basically a candy shop for the design-obsessed. Well, La Tavola is one of our favorite destinations and today we are excited to feature the lovely woman who is our guide through all of the fine linens there: Lindsay Newby-Snode.  We love working with Lindsay and jumped at the chance to pick her brain with the following interview – we hope you’ll enjoy her insights and stories as much as we did!

Lindsay Newby-Snode of La Tavola

Lindsay, what sparked your interest in wedding and event design and decor? And what keeps your interest sustained?

Weddings are so magical and it is such an important day. It is the one day that is totally about you and you get to live out your dream of your perfect party. The day will always be remembered by the couple, their family and guests.

What are the most important things clients should keep in mind when coming to the showroom for the first time?

Don’t get overwhelmed. It is supposed to be fun! We have so many linens to choose from but our staff is here to help and make everything simple and enjoyable!

La Tavola

What is the most helpful thing a client can bring to the table?

An idea of what they are looking for, yet be open to suggestions. They might love something that they thought they would hate. Ideally knowing your color palette and overall style is best so we can help to narrow down the choices to find the perfect linen.

What is the greatest challenge you’ve come across in your work?

Sometimes budgets can be tricky but since we offer such a wide array of options, we can always work within your budget to find an option that will complement your style.

La Tavola

What trends are you loving (or loving least!) these days?

I am obsessed with our velvet collection – it is almost like a suede and it is FABULOUS! The fabric is so lush and rich. The color wave has something for any season ranging from bold shades to muted tones and chic neutrals.

What is your favorite memory at La Tavola?

I loved working with Morgan Stewart from the #RichKids of Beverly Hills on her recent wedding to Brendan Fitzpatrick.   It was so fun to meet her and get to spend time with her working on her special day. She was so fun and had such a good time with the planning process.

La Tavola

Are there any other thoughts or additional insights you’d like to share (best tips, best advice)?

Visiting our showrooms and seeing the linens in person makes all the difference over browsing online. The fabrics really come to life and you can play around with different options to visualize what your wedding will look like.

We all have our “thing” and tabletop has been mine for quite some time.  I love hand-painted embellishments, fancy chargers, napkin details, and crystal stemware. A beautiful glass or presentation piece, such as a soup tureen, can make me weak in the knees. However, I believe that food looks best on a white plate, so you will notice that theme among my favorite china patterns. Most importantly, though, I believe that they key to a stylish table is flexibility (all couples should experiment with mixing and matching china patterns!) and I think these five options here are a good starting point.

  • 1. Arcades by Philippe Deshoulieres.  One of the historic tabletop designer's flagship models, this collection is a perfect example of my favorite blend: traditional and modern combined.
  • 2. Anna's Garden by Anna Weatherly.  Anna Weatherly is having a renaissance - just ask our friends at Casa de Perrin who are now working with the Anna Weatherly team on custom pieces for wedding rentals.  These hand-painted pieces would be perfect for garden settings, more casual gatherings, or a special tea set.
  • 3. Bernardaud's Palmyre Dinnerware is my choice for formal dining.  The clean look is a perfect starting point, allowing one to add in and mix additional patterns over the years.  In my home I currently use this dinnerware with a Mottahedeh gold lace charger and Faberge Empress Elisabeth dessert service.
  • 4. CB2's Frank Dinnerware is simple, modern, and easy to replace - perfect for daily use.  Similar designs are currently used at a number of fine modern restaurants and can often be spotted on the pages of Bon Appétit.
  • 5. Mottahedeh's Lace Collection (shown here in blue) is offered in a variety of colors, upping the ante a bit while still allowing the meal to take center stage.

It’s well-known around here that Cassandra LOVES holiday weddings, so this one is extra fun to share with you all. The combination of the Jonathan Club’s elegant, mature backdrop and our couple’s rock-and-roll vibe set up a gorgeous and romantic contrast of elements. We loved working closely with the Jonathan Club’s resident floral designer to play it all up while incorporating a Christmas theme, and particularly relished the opportunity to create ornaments to compliment the escort cards! It all came together to become a Christmas celebration of love that led to a dance party with the band going well into the night and past schedule!

We just loved working with Kaylin and Steve to put together this wedding. It was all about family and fun, and their joy was evident all throughout the process. And in the end, we felt so honored to be there to see the family glow with happiness all evening.

Two of our favorite details: the crazy sunset (we’ve included a spectacular photo below) and the fun dessert options. This perfectly-matched couple wasn’t feeling the cake thing, so they surprised their guests with Sprinkles Ice Cream – YUM! (Don’t worry, their guests were treated to both cake AND cupcakes!  Sugar rushes all around!)

Julia and Mike’s soft, sweet, joyful, and easy-going wedding was a perfect reflection of their relationship.  It was so hard to select the photos for this post – there are dozens just bursting with happiness! And for everyone who wants to believe in love at first sight, look no further. It happened to Julia and Mike – their entire wedding party attested to it while toasting the couple throughout the evening! We all certainly felt it that night, and we will never forget seeing the sparks between these two each time their eyes met.

We were smitten with this bride from the first call but her hot pink capris lead us into a design for her entire wedding weekend that was fun, colorful and vibrant. While the couple met while rowing in college, it was the bride’s home state that made for the perfect celebration. A dusting of rain during their vows, couldn’t keep their happy and uplifting spirits down. The reception started with an all-star band and conga line and lasted well into the wee hours.

  • Enjoyed reading this posting. My nephew was diagnosed at 13 years, now 17. He appears so grown up about it, but I worry so much about him especially now that he is a teenager. He has had quite a few hypos – scary. Working with him presently to get his levels right.

  • I like that pic in the powder room much better than the apples. For some reason, food and/or kitchen type acesesorics are weird to me in the loo!!Love how you changed the frame color.

Alex & Errie’s wedding was not only a lovely site to be seen but a true meeting of the minds. These two PhDs let us guide their wedding planning through wedding day filled with wit and style. The stunning backdrop of one of our favorite venues in Malibu, Stone Manor provided a tranquil setting from sunset through end of night.
