A shared background in theater (as well as our bride’s love for her time spent teaching elementary school) guided the theme for Andrea and Phinny’s sunny Malibu wedding. Chalkboards, school craft paper, and impromptu tambourine and kazoo serenades infused the occasion with nostalgic whimsy, while a floral medley of ranunculus, garden roses, tulips, and white peonies (and an orchid-topped cake!) added a touch of romance.

Good question!  While there are a lot of handy little things you can pack away in an attempt to prepare for the unexpected, these five items should definitely make the cut:

Baby Powder

To cover and clean any spills or stains on your bridal gown.  Yes, I know you’re thinking your handy little Tide Pen will do the trick, but I’m here to warn you against it!  Regular spot treatments like Tide Pens actually go into the fabric, affecting the potential for permanent stain removal and often leaving a residue ring.  Baby powder will do the trick without impacting the long-term preservation of your gown.

Blotting Paper

When touching up your complexion blotting papers won’t leave any noticeable dust behind like a translucent powder would.

Shoe Shine

Again, you want everyone to look their best in your wedding photos!  Sometimes grandpa (or even dad) forgets to get a shoe shine before the big day.

Safety Pins

In case your bustle falls over the course of the reception (you’ll be running around a lot more than you realize!) these usually do the trick.

Bobby Pins

Great for holding hair back while quickly fixing makeup after the ceremony or for perking up a falling chignon after a rowdy dance set.  Classic fix!

What a treat it was to help throw an intimate Malibu home wedding for Sunghee & Mike!  Stunning views, piano and strings played by a talented trio, and soft candlelight brought romance and warmth to the joyful atmosphere.  After a beautiful sunset cocktail reception, the couple revealed a special surprise for their guests, donning traditional Korean attire to present a personalized version of a ring ceremony.  The delighted guests were then treated to cake and coffee and enjoyed the Malibu coastline well into the night.

The style was relaxed and fun with a touch of whimsy at this Malibu backyard morning wedding. The couple opted against formality and instead created a cozy day for their friends and loved ones, inviting their closest guys and gals to wear lovely green dresses and grey suits in lieu of establishing a formal bridal party. Some of the sweetest moments we remember were the guests’ surprised reactions to the “mock Polaroids” created from old photographs the couple had on hand.  We are so happy to have been a part of creating Mia and Damon’s unique celebration!

This darling couple wanted a wedding that honored not only their Indian heritage but also their fun-loving Californian spirit. Setting the stage at The Sunset was a special task, as they wanted to enjoy a beach ceremony with an upscale garden reception, followed by a surprise dance party inside the venue after the dinner-hour toasts. Confetti canons cascaded over the couple as they cut their cake and danced well into the night, which was a request from the bride on day one. Rashi & Manoj stole our hearts from the start and we’re honored to continue a friendship that we hope lasts for years to come!

Monali and Atif celebrated their wedding day at stunning Stone Manor in Malibu. If you’ve noticed a trend- that we love Stone Manor- you are absolutely on point! Monali wanted to honor their Indian heritage in an intimate setting and focus on close family and friends. Since she and Atif were planning from a distance (though not too far off, just up the coast in San Francisco) they were able to keep their guest list small and enjoy Indian delicacies while spending quality time with their guests. We hand folded each and every napkin into a lotus and placed a stack of sweets, individually packaged, mid-table in lieu centerpieces. It was another Beautiful Day, for our short term planning team!

This darling couple stole our hearts with their love of travel and desire to bring family from near and far to celebrate their intimate summertime wedding in Malibu. They chose stunning Stone Manor Estate to gather their folks from Canada, Australia, London and beyond. We were particularly smitten with Hally’s gown which she had custom made by Rhonda Hemingway in Sydney, Australia. As Style Me Pretty said- shoe fanatics are certain to fall in love with the bride’s cool kicks! We certainly felt the l-o-v-e in the details.
